Ala-BAG-a is a venture begun in 2006 in south central, rural Alabama. Lowndes County is one of the economically poorest areas of the United States.

Ala-BAG-a purse/totes are sewn by women who have little or no other income. They have learned to sew and make the bags. All proceeds (only the materials cost is taken out) are given to the women.

The original and unique Ala-BAG-a is reversible, sewn from denim with an African-American print. Each bag is numbered and signed by the seamstress. Sewing, especially quilts have been a part of the story of African-American life in the South.

Thank you for your purchase of an Ala-BAG-a and the help it provides to our local women.
