Cyberfolk Spring 1998 Folk Music on the Road Whether you're traveling for business or pleasure, being on the road provides a great opportunity to check out local folk venues and performers. Sneeking off to a local coffeehouse can be a relaxing break from a business trip or convention, and a folk festival is a great event to build a vacation around. This edition of Cyberfolk will explore resources for locating venues and festivals across the country. One of the most popular sites for worldwide concert, festival and venue information is Musi-Cal. You can search for information by location, performer, or type of music. You can even sign up to have a search done for you on a daily, weekly or monthly basis and have the results emailed to you! Musi-Cal can be found at http://concerts.calendar.com/ Another extensive listing of concerts and festivals is the Dirty Linen Gig Guide, located at http://www.futuris.net/linen/74toc.html Looking for a festival? This volunteer effort intended to provide the folk music community with a comprehensive listing of all folk and similar festivals in the United States and Canada. http://oeonline.com/folk_fests/ Folkmusic.org is a relatively new site which intends to be a comprehensive source for folk and acoustic music resources on the web. Click on the "shows" button for listings of venues, performers and festivals. Find this site at http://www.folkmusic.org/ If you don't have time during your travels to attend a performance, you may want to catch some folk music on a local radio station. Check out these Folk Radio Lists. http://web.cgrg.ohio-state.edu/folkbook/radio/folkradio.html The links discussed in this article can be located through http://shark.dls.net/~chrismac/cyberfolk/spring98.html If you have any favorite sites or topics you'd like to see mentioned in Cyberfolk, please let us know.
