Chicago Folk Music Listings On-Line

Looking for something to do tonight? Maybe you'd like to find some live folk music.
The first place to look, of course is "Common Times" - and you're already doing that!
But sometimes venues don't plan far enough ahead for us to publish the particulars of
every performance. Here's how you can find up to the minute listings on the Internet.

Musi-Cal is a calendar that provides easy access to up-to-date live music information:
concerts, festivals, gigs and other musical events. My favorite feature of this site
is the ability to search by artist, city, or venue. It covers all types of music, in
addition to folk. If you're a musician, it's easy to post your own gigs here. Find
it at http://www.musi-cal.com/

The Chicago Sun-Times lists a small sampling of folk events around the area for the
current week. Check it out at http://www.suntimes.com/calendar/folk.html

Provided by Dirty Linen Magazine, the Dirty Linen Gig Guide lists folk performances
all across the country. It can be browsed by artist, state, or event. You can browse
events in Illinois at http://kiwi.futuris.net/linen/special/dl-states/ILLINOIS.html If
you are a performer, this site will tell you how to list your gigs here too.

Yes folks, the Chicago Reader is online! A subset of the free weekly publication you
can pick up in Chicago, this site includes "The Reader's Guide to Arts &
Entertainment" Look under the Music link, where you can browse music listings by the
type of music you're looking for. The folk music can be fount at
http://chi.yahoo.com/external/reader/music/folk_country.html

Centerstage Chicago is an extensive guide to just about everything in Chicago,
including how to get there on the EL. Their folk music listings can be found at
http://centerstage.net/chicago/listings/music/styles/folk-country.html
