Communique Descrambled Nov. 1999

1) What is the nature of your current relationship with Glen Larson?

"As far as the nature of my relationship with Glen Larson, it is mostly professional and occasionally on a personal and social level. I have worked for him, been to his home, had dinner with him and spoken on the phone with him many times during the years we've known each other. I have nothing but the highest regard for Glen. He is not only one of the most prolific and talented producers in television, but also a very kind and good man. My professional relationship with Glen dates back 25 years. I first worked for Glen in 1994, and in addition to Battlestar Galactica, I have worked for him on-camera in seventeen other productions, the majority of which were post-Galactica. I have additionally done voice work for him in several other TV shows. I have no idea how this volume of work in Glen's productions compares to other Galactica cast members, but I do know I have worked for him more than any other producer in my career. Glen has been very good to me professionally and has been there for me personally for me as well. In fact, after my husband was killed in an accident in 1994, Glen was the first person to put me to work, which was exactly what I needed. Not only did he employ me, but he also insisted on providing me with extra airline tickets for my children to accompany me to the filming location (Hawaii) and gave me two hotel rooms. It had only been 9 weeks since my husband's death and he knew I was not about to leave my kids. They were only 3 and 7 at the time. He also told me to stay as long as I needed to after work was completed. His kindness to me at that difficult time was a very beautiful gift for which I'll always be grateful. I speak to Glen occasionally, although it has been several months since our last chat. With regard to any new Battlestar Galactica project he might be doing, I'm afraid I know very little. I do know that Galactica has always been a "favorite child" of his, and he has always hoped to someday revisit it. Glen told me nearly two years ago that the theatrical rights to Battlestar Galactica had reverted back to his company. (As far as the rest of the rights are concerned, I have no concrete knowledge as to who owns what.) I believe Glen has had something in some stage of development for several years regarding Galactica, even prior to his company regaining the theatrical rights.

2) Has Glen promised you anything relating to a Battlestar revival that he is doing? (maybe a role in the new feature?)

You asked if I had been promised anything by Glen Larson related to any proposed revival of Battlestar Galactica. The answer is absolutely not. Glen and I have never even discussed my participation in any future Galactica project. I have never even asked him if I was possibly to be included in it. I would certainly enjoy the opportunity to reprise the role of Sheba. Glen wrote the character for me and she was one of the most interesting ones I've ever played. I'd very much like to explore how Sheba has grown in these 20+ years. Hopefully she's become more confident in handling her emotions and made some promotion past the rank of Leiutenant!!!!

3) Have you seen the new Battlestar trailer produced by Richard Hatch?

Yes, I had the opportunity to see the trailer Richard Hatch has produced. I missed it in Atlanta at DragonCon as I had to return home to my kids, but I did finally see it in Ft. Washington, PA.

4) What do you think of it?

I loved it. I was extremely impressed with the production values and thought it was exciting and very well done. If I'd seen that trailer in a theatre, I'd be back the next week with my $8.00 for the movie! I have always thought the world of  Richard, both professionally and personally. I very much enjoyed working with him on Galactica and found him to be a giving, talented actor. I'm sorry we never had a second season, as I think the relationship between Sheba nad Apollo could have gone in some very interesting directions. Richard and I actually worked together twice after Galactica. For fans of the very obscure, we appeared together in the VERY FIRST episode of MURDER SHE WROTE  and for fans of the REALLY INCREDIBLY OBSCURE.....we did an episode of THE NEW LOVE AMERICAN STYLE together. We played a married couple trapped in a diner together......very Twilight Zone-ish in a cute way.  Personally, I think Richard is one of the dearest people I've ever met. He is kind and has a heart so giving and full of love. The amount of time he has given in the service of others is huge, and most folks will never know how much Richard has done to help people. Over the past few years, Richard has single-handedly done more to influence the fan interest in Galactica than anyone else, and for that we all owe him a tremendous debt of gratitude. His decision to commit his own finances and produce this trailer is a brave and daring move, and I wish only success for it. Any interest in Galactica can only be positive, and he's done more than anybody else on that front.

5) Why weren't you in the trailer?

Richard and I had discussed my appearing in his trailer, and had talked about availability dates for shooting on more than one occasion. I had asked him for a script and I never got one. I don't know why, but probably because he forgot to send it!  We both have very busy lives, and the weekend on which the actual filming took place (Sept. '98) I was away in Texas and unable to participate.

6) Why do you think that Richard and Glen are/will not work together on a new BSG project?

You've asked me why Richard and Glen aren't working together on a new Galactica project. I have no knowledge of whether they are in contact or not. I have not really had the chance to discuss it with either of them lately. The filming of Battlestar Galactica was a lovely experience for me and the continuing interest all these years later has been a wonderful addition to all of that. Galactica was one of the highlights of my professional life and will continue to be. I am however, a working actress, and a single mother with two young children to support. I have played many other varied and wonderful roles in the  21 years since Battlestar Galactica, and certainly look forward to at least another 21 years of good stuff. I've appeared in some real dogs.........I DON'T even want to go into it!!!!! And I've also had the pleasure of being part of some real gems along the way. I am very blessed to be able to keep working in the profession I have chosen, and the fact that there are people out there who enjoy my work and care about what I do is more rewarding than you can ever imagine.

7) What do you have planned for your AnneLockhart.com website and when will it be online?

After much urging from several friends, I am in the process if building a web site which will contain some biographical and current information about me. Part of my reason for doing this is to put out some accurate information about what things I HAVE actually done!! There's info on the web about me that is totally bogus and I want to set that straight. Doing this required going back through ALL my date books since high school and making a list of all my TV work. BOY, was it a daunting task. There were things I'd totally forgotten!!!(Does anybody really want to know I appeared in OWEN MARSHALL?? or BARNABY JONES???!!!) Actually, it's been sort of fun digging all that stuff up, but time consuming as you can well imagine. Eventually all these details of my checkered TV past will be listed on the web site. It's just taking time. I haven't set a deadline for myself. It's sort of tough between carpool, swim practice, baseball practice, working and all the other stuff I do! SO in the midst of all this......... I am actually continuing to work in my chosen profession. Since September, I've done an episode of JAG.  I play a navy judge. It will air November 2nd. I also did a couple of days on a film with Roy Scheider called DAYBREAK; have no idea as to it's release date. And I've just yesterday finished another episode of DIAGNOSIS MURDER. (proposed airdate early January??) I had a great time doing it...it's a western and I play essentially Miss Kitty from Gunsmoke! Monday (11/1) I'm booked to do voice work on a film directed by Diane Keaton called HANGING UP.  After that my next firm booking is November 27th in Indianapolis, Indiana, where I will be doing the play LOVE LETTERS with Dirk Benedict. It's at a Slanted Fedora convention......(don't know too much more than that...check their website....www.sfedora.com..I think)

I hope I've been able to answer some of your questions.....although I realize I probably don't have any new information for you. You must realize that I'm

pretty deeply involved in being a single mom and raising my two beautiful children and can't really follow the gossip about what's up with the Galactica stuff. You probably know more than I do!

As I said, I'm very flattered by your continuing interest in me and my work. I'll do my best to keep you updated on my current projects.

Take care and talk to you soon............Anne

May 2001 Report
"I've been busy with kids and some work; doing lots of voice stuff these days;
did 2 radio commercials, a narration for Armed Forces Radio & TV Network, as
well as voice work for 2 movies (The Animal, and Route 666), a TV pilot
called "Destiny" and  re-voices on a couple of episodes of Law & Order SVU.

All in the last month or so.  My writing has kept me busy too. I'm still an editor at
a local magazine here and I had 3 pieces due for last issue; just got them in on time
last week. I also did another live radio stage presentation last week; we did 5
episodes of the old 40s & 50s radio show "Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar"
("The investigator with the Action-packed expense account"!!!)
It was fun and hopefully our little group will be able to do some more of them
The audience seemed to love it."

Til next time!

From Al (Charybdis) DeLachica
Anne just got back in touch with me about her work on
Dirk Benedict's new movie: "Cahoots" (aka "Kamikaze Cowboy")

"I've been very busy working on CAHOOTS. We've been in
pre-production since beginning of Feb. I have been
involved with this picture for the last year
and am so happy to see it finally get up and running.
So great for Dirk. We are low-budget, so everyone is
doing the work of 5 people, but we're all
there because we love the project. I'ts lots of work,
but much fun. Got a very good cast, Keith Carradine,
David Keith, Wendie Malick and Janet Gunn
are our leads and Dirk has written a very good script.
We start April 3.

Anne"

> Subject: Re: ImaginCon

I'm SO sorry to hear that people went to Imagine Con
 expecting me to be there.
I was booked to go for over a year and had a
 signed contract to do so.
As time grew nearer, the person who booked me into
the show made repeated attempts to contact the promoter.
 All unsuccessful.
I NEVER received a call, no plane ticket was ever sent to me,
and the other terms of my contract were breached.

I am very concerned to think that this convention continued to
advertise my appearance when they knew full well
that they had never made anarrangements for my travel or
even contacted me at all.

It's important to me that the truth about my not appearing this past
weekend is known. I had  kept the weekend free for over a year and had
planned to bring my children with me.
So sorry to have disappointed anyone.

I hope you had a good Easter........God Bless you all........

Subject Wassup?

Anne: "Yes, I know about new BG proposed series. Yes,
I have heard from them. First spoke as far back as end of March.
Nothing else I can say at this time, except if I again
play Sheba, I certainly hope I have been promoted beyond a
lieutenant after 20+ years!

Also heard someone asked about OSMOSIS JONES. Yes,
it's me. I did several voices.
Also in past several months did THE ANIMAL(w/Rob Schneider),
lots of LAW & ORDER SVU, John Carpenter's GHOSTS OF MARS,
A BEAUTIFUL MIND (Ron Howard picture w/Russell Crowe),
COLLATERAL DAMAGE (w/Arnold Schwartzenegger),as
well as something currently called WINTERDANCE w/Cuba
Gooding Jr. I was a talking Malamute, among other things!
(Years as a trained actress!!!!!)

Mostly I am unbilled for this voice work. It's sort of my
secret career for last 25 yrs.!

Will next be performing a 1 woman piece I wrote at
George Washington University in the fall."
There you go!!

Take care
Anne
